Salaverry aspires to be an alternative port of Callao for Pacific Alliance

Entrepreneurs in the Region La Libertad seek to position the Port of Salaverry in an alternative Terminal at Callao, in order to boost Peruvian exports under the Pacific Alliance, said Freedom Pro Business Group.

The group vice president, Luis Santa Maria, explained that this trading bloc, which includes Peru, along with Chile, Mexico and Colombia, increase Peruvian exports and the movement of containers, so it is necessary to develop more ports in the country.

"Callao will saturate much load it will come from Asia. We need to develop connectivity between Callao and Salaverry, '' said the Freedom Region Economic Meeting, organized by the Central Reserve Bank (BCR), which concludes today.

He said the charge could desaduanarse in Salaverry and then be taken to Mexico, later to be transferred to countries like Canada.

"We are part of the Pacific Alliance and under it are the fifteenth largest economy. We have to push this block here is the success, "said

He also said that La Libertad region needs a new master plan, with industrial development, including the port of Salaverry not only as an exporter of raw materials but also value-added products.
"Why did not we think of an Industrial Salaverry and not just exporting raw material, what is the added value of Trujillo, we have to make a Puerto Salaverry Industrial, said.

Santa Maria added that this port development must be accompanied by an improvement of the road infrastructure to be competitive, so he urged the Government to support the development of these projects.

"We can not be competitive without adequate infrastructure. Public investment will have to give priority to projects to integrate and unite our region to the rest of the country and with other countries in Latin America, "he said.
