Predict significant growth in aquaculture exports

The Association of Exporters (ADEX) provides that the export of aquaculture products (Paiche, scallops, trout, prawns and tilapia) to reach US $ 250 million during 2013.

If that projection materialize, growth of between 21% and 23% compared to 2012 is recorded.
According to the President of ADEX, Eduardo Routledge, exports of aquaculture products increased by 13% annually between 2008 and 2012, indicating that the Aquaculture Sector has growth potential.

In the first nine months of 2013, the country exported 20,000 tonnes of aquaculture products worth USD 196 million, according to the Business Intelligence System Adex Data Trade.
For Routledge, development of aquaculture in Peru involves encouraging diversification of species and production areas nationally, reported Andina.

“We have important areas on the coast, in lakes and rivers in the mountains, and jungle. All this represents a huge potential that we are not taking advantage”He added.
Meanwhile, the manager of Services and Extractive Industries ADEX Yturry Susana, said that the export of scallops paiche and lead growth this year driven by shipments to new markets: Thailand, Russia, China, Korea and Indonesia .

“In 2011 we had only 74 markets in 2012 to 114 and we hope that 2013 will reach more than 120 markets and explored”He noted.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Production (Produce) announced that before the end of the year the new law will be ready for promotion and development of aquaculture, which provides a fund to promote technological research in this sector, Economic America reported.

The Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Paul Phumpiu, argues that the only way to boost growth in the aquaculture industry is promoting research to develop new areas of cultivation of products that succeed in international markets. These products stand Paiche, Trout, shrimp, scallops and Tilapia.
