President unveils plaque on maritime boundary with Chile

President Ollanta Humala today unveiled a commemorative plaque to the maritime delimitation between Peru and Chile, established by the International Court of Justice in The Hague in a judgment delivered on 27 January.

The activity was attended by the Chief of the Cabinet, Ana Jara, and holders of Foreign Affairs, Gonzalo Gutiérrez, and Defense Minister Peter Cateriano.

The judgment of that court defined international maritime boundary between Peru and Chile and instructed both states together determine the points corresponding to the course of the frontier geographic coordinates.

Joint fieldwork and corresponding measurement points that ceiling cabinet culminated on March 25.

According to the ruling, the maritime delimitation of the two nations, initially comprising a horizontal line from the coast to the 80 mile point from which traces a bisector equidistant to mile 200.
