Present advances in genetics Chilean mussel

Academic and research of genetic area of ​​the Institute of Aquaculture of the Universidad Austral de Chile (UACh) Headquarters Puerto Montt, Dra. Marcela Astorga, was invited to exhibit at the "10th International Conference on Food Safety in bivalve molluscs (ICMSS, by its acronym in English) "held in the Patagonian Hotel City Puerto Varas (Los Lagos Region) between 15 and 20 March.

Dr. Astorga presented the paper entitled “Genetic considerations for mollusk production in aquaculture: Current state of knowledge” in the context of the symposium "Shellfish Genetics " where he was a review of studies in genetics at the five main species of molluscs produced in aquaculture systems worldwide and also presented the results obtained by the group of the Laboratory of Molecular Genetics UACh genetic Chilean mussel ( chilensis) Mytilus.

This conference, held every two years in different parts of the world into a producer of bivalves, is the only platform to discuss and develop networks among scientists, regulators and producers from around the world focused on food safety.

It was attended by important and renowned scientists as well as representatives of regulatory agencies of the main markets for Chilean fishery and aquaculture products that are exported.
