Shrimp and scallop aquaculture exports drive growth

Aquaculture product exports generated USD 134.8 million in revenue in the first five months of this year, a result which represents an increase of 31.7% over the same period in 2013.

According to the Management Services and Extractive Industries Association of Exporters (ADEX), this increase was primarily due to increased shipments of prawns and scallops.
Foreign sales of shrimp farming were worth USD 79.5 million, 43.3% more than in January-May 2013.

The main market was the US, with purchases worth USD 61.2 million representing 77% of the total.
Other important markets were Spain Peruvian Prawn (increase of 72% yoy), France (33%) and South Korea (306% more).

ADEX also said the free trade agreement with Korea, which took effect in August 2011, exports Prawn benefits entering this market with a preferential tariff of 4% to 9%.
Exports Shell -the second biggest fan of the sector grew by 22.9% starting in the period from January to May.

The main markets were France, which increased its imports by 24%, and the United States, which experienced a decline of 29%, according to figures from the Business Intelligence System Adex Data Trade.
Belgium and Canada, meanwhile, reported significant increases in their purchases of Peruvian fan shells, 186% and 204%, respectively.

The ADEX report also notes that after closing 2013 with a fall of 2.8%, sales of tilapia abroad in the first five months of 2014 grew by 11.8% yoy.
United States was the main destination, concentrating 99.4% of the total. Secondly Ecuador started.
Peru also exported Paiche for $ 208,000, ie 69.4% less than in the same period in 2013. This product was sent to six international markets: Hong Kong, USA, France, Japan and Indonesia.

Trout exports were others which fell this year, compared to 20.1% registered in January-May 2013. The main destinations include Canada (-25%), Japan (522%), EE .S., Sweden, Norway, Germany, UK and Netherlands.
