Imarpe be trained in management capacity of the fishing fleet in Colombia

The Instituto del Mar del Peru (Imarpe) participate in the Technical Expert Workshop on the Management of Tuna Fleet Capacity in the Eastern Pacific Ocean (EPO), to be held in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.

This training will be held from 23 to 25 April 2014, according directorial resolution Ministry of Production (Produce) published today.

Within this workshop will seek to define an effective, fair and transparent system to manage and reduce the medium term, the ability of the Tuna Fleet.

This shall include a timetable for the adoption and implementation of the system in accordance with the Plan for Regional Management of fishing capacity for tunas in the EPO, established in 2005.

To do this, the experts taking part in these activities will make a review of the current fleet capacity and the legal aspects related to the management of this capacity, regional distribution, and implications for management.

Therefore, the Coordinator of Functional Area Research DG Research Pelagic Resources, Michelangelo Ñiquen, is authorized to participate in these activities on behalf of Imarpe.
