Encourage scientific study of mackerel

The National Fisheries Society (SNP) aims to promote scientific research mackerel based on the information provided by industrial vessels.
To this end, the SNP has organized the V Workshop on Diagnostic Status mackerel, that between 3 and 5 September gathers scientific research specialists heading for this pelagic resource.
The President of the SNP, Elena Conterno said that from the findings of this workshop, a report that supported the arguments of the country to the Regional Fisheries Management Organisation in the South Pacific (RFMOs-PS) is presented.
The main objective is to establish that the population of Peruvian Horse mackerel is different from living in Chilean waters, so they must have different treatments.
Conterno said that the Peruvian government has made significant progress in this regard and hoped that the strength of reports that help the next scientific meeting of RFMO-PS, when you analyze how you can capture, is “note two stocks of mackerel and no one”.
The Regional Organization is the international body which grants fishing quotas to each country to certain species at sea, including mackerel and soon the Giant Squid or Squid.
The president of the SNP said the ships associated companies have extensive and updated information obtained during their fishing, oceanography, acoustics, geostatistics, species and size of catch.
“This valuable data collected should be analyzed and made available to universities and research centers in the world who need to thereby achieve a better understanding of our resources and achieve their best sustainable management”He said.
To that end, the SNP has invested more than USD 60,000 in specialized software for organizing data collected by fishing vessels and obtain scientific information applied.
Conterno said “This is a demonstration of how the public and private sectors can work together with academia and the scientific community for the benefit of resource sustainability”.
But he also stressed that effective control of fishing effort and landings is needed to prevent illegal fishing and catching fish less than legal size.
“Otherwise, this will become a chronic depredation announced”He said.
On the other hand and despite the latest official report of the National Multisectoral Committee Charge Study of El Niño (ENFEN) predicts the presence of a weather phenomenon of weak to moderate magnitude, several specialized agencies warn of its impact on fisheries towards the last quarter of 2014.
Besides anchovy, El Niño also harms the Giant Squid or Squid at Perico, the prawns, the mackerel and mackerel.
