Authorities seize more than 10 tons of marine species in the Lambayeque Region

TRUJILLO – Over 10,000 kilos of marine species, most of the mackerel variety that did not meet the minimum size for commercialization were seized so far this year in the Department of Lambayeque, it was reported today.

Mario Ortiz, Head of the Directorate for Extraction, Processing and Control of Regional Fisheries Management Production Development, told Andina that this was achieved in unannounced raids in different ways in this area, especially in the Toll Mórrope (Lambayeque) .

In total there were 10,800 kilos of aquatic species without meeting regulatory sizes for marketing in local and national markets.

He noted that recently seized the largest volume so far this period, which was transported in a refrigerated ferrying 2,700 kilos of mackerel hydrobiological species did not meet the minimum sizes for sale. The destination of the goods was Lima.

"Mackerel have it submit a length of 32 inches, but had smaller sizes," he said after adding a penalty of about 4,500 soles applied to the owner of the goods.
The official said that marine species are extracted from Piura coves and harbors as if Bayóyar, mocking Sechura control that are mobilized in insulated trucks bound for the capital of the Republic and markets Lambayeque, La Libertad and Chimbote.

"Retailers operate using different mechanisms to circumvent the control, because the buckets placed small fish on the inside of the vehicle, revealing the other species that meet the requirements which makes control difficult," she noted.

The official urged fishermen not to destroy the natural resources that are the heritage of the state, to catch small species.
He said local governments should Lambayeque, in the exercise of its powers, supervise the markets and prevent the sale of marine species in closure.

Ortiz said that soon, in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Production, Public Ministry and National Police will expand and strengthen its interventions to prevent the extraction and marketing of marine specimens that do not meet the minimum size, including inspections of fishing terminals.
The hydrobiological seized producers is donated to charities of the Lambayeque Region.
