Exports Grow Perico

The Association of Exporters (ADEX) reported that in January 2015 the country exported parrots USD 20.5 million, a figure which shows an increase of 60% over the same month in 2014.

This sale represents a rise of 97.5% over the first month of 2014.

The Perico fishing season extends between the months of spring and summer, so most concrete exports during the first months of the year.

According to ADEX, “El Perico is used heavily in the cuisine in the US market”.

“Currently, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is driving the Fisheries responsible for this species among companies in the sector to obtain certification Sustainable Management of Fisheries (MSC)”Added the Association.

The national Perico was also sent to Guadalupe (USD 602,728) in Panama (USD 456,438), Brazil (USD 177,996), Canada, Venezuela, Jamaica and Martinique.
