CHILE – Up 20% the value of fish exports

Exports of Fisheries and Aquaculture in Chile reached in the first nine months of 2014 a value of USD 4.619 billion. This represents a rise of 20% over the same period in 2013, when they obtained USD 3.848 billion.

The volume of exports grew by 3.8%, from 980,595 tonnes in 2013 to 1,017,764 tonnes this year, the Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture (SUBPESCA) reported.

The line of frozen sample volumes falling 3.6%. However, its value 23.5% increased compared to the same period last year, according to the latest Report of Fisheries and Aquaculture SUBPESCA.

Dried Seaweed and fresh chilled, near the Fish Oil, lines were experiencing greater increase in volume.

The structure of participation in relation to the volume of exports was led by the line of frozen, which represented 50.1% of the total. They followed the lines of fishmeal (19.9%), fresh refrigerated (14.8%) and fish oil (6.8%).

According to statistics SUBPESCA, the main export was Atlantic salmon, which accounted for 49.7% of total value of exports. We followed the rainbow trout and Pacific salmon.

Chilean products were destined for 108 countries, of which the nine major ones accounted for 77.5% of total exports. Including the United States, Japan, Brazil, China and Russia were highlighted.

With respect to the extractive sector, the accumulated value of fish exports (474,300 tonnes) between January and September 2014 to USD 1 billion, reflecting a slight increase (3.9%) compared with the same period last year .

In the first nine months were sold abroad 202,960 tons of fishmeal by USD 321.7 million, while a year earlier had exported 179,179 tonnes worth USD 327.1 million. The most important destinations of fishmeal were China, Japan and Spain.

Of total flour exported, 59.2% were of prime quality, 32% of super prime and 7.2% standard.

Foreign sales of frozen seafood products totaled USD 442.8 million, which represented a decrease of 1.5% compared to the same period in 2013. These products were mainly directed to Japan, Nigeria and the United States, with shares in value of 17.2%, 15.3% and 14.6%, respectively.

As for canned products, sales in the first nine months of 2014 totaled USD 76.4 million, up 16.8% from a year earlier.

Exports of Aquaculture Sector accounted for 77.2% of the total value of foreign sales and 53.4% ​​of total exports volume between January and September this year, with USD 3.568 million and about 543,400 tonnes.
