Seek to consolidate artisanal fishing and small-scale Pota

The Ministry of Production (Produce) prepublished legislation which lays down rules for the formalization, adaptation and consolidation of artisanal and small-scale fishery Giant Squid or Squid (Dosidicus gigas).

The Government's aim is to promote the development of fisheries resource and form a smaller scale fleet dedicated to his capture, which enables the sustainable use of Pota.

In order to receive prior to the prepublication contributions, Produce organized a workshop in Lima and several workshops with associations of artisanal fishermen in Piura (Paita and Talara) and Arequipa (Islay), between 12 and November 14 last.

Interested parties have a period of 15 calendar days to submit their views, comments and suggestions to the Ministry's headquarters.

Pota capture fishery is considered the second country. According to the latest report by Produce, between January and September 2014 334.650 tonnes for frozen line, ie 62.9% of the total (531,614 tons) were landed. For canning, while 422 tons of Peruvian Pota was allocated.
