SOUTH AFRICA – Open the largest farm produce world flies feed Fish

In a month will begin operating in South Africa's first commercial farm flies the world, as part of a project to produce sustainable fish and chicken feed from fly larvae.

AgriProtein, a company culture of South Africa, offers a double advantage with your product MagMeal: can replace the expensive fishmeal and sustainable natural source of protein for livestock, and also help remove trash.

The farm can accommodate over 8,000 million flies and larvae produce 22 tons daily. The company has an agreement with the agency for disposal of Cape Town, to help manage garbage in a city of four million inhabitants.

The process is based on common flies lay their eggs in the trash. These eggs quickly become larvae, which feed on the waste as they grow. It is estimated that one kilogram of eggs become larvae 380 kilograms in just three days.

After a few days, before they turn into flies, larvae are collected, washed and pressurized as MagMeal, becoming food for chicken and fish farms.

The company, which received funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, has raised USD 11 million to build its first two retail parks, each of which will house about 8500 million flies. These facilities will be the first of a series of 40 that plans to develop.

The company also has the support of private companies such as Twynam groups s.Oliver Australia and Germany, reported Business Insider.

AgriProtein has approval from South Africa but their products may still enter Europe due to a regulation that prohibits the feeding of cattle with processed meat, and MagMeal falls into this category.
