SNP welcomes the Comptroller actions against illegal fishing

The National Fisheries Society welcomes the recent decision of the Superior Court of Administrative Responsibilities of the Comptroller General of the Republic sanctioned former officials of the Regional Government of Piura for awarding licenses to illegal artisanal vessels for the extraction of anchovy in that jurisdiction without authorization from the Ministry of Production.

The Comptroller General's Office reported on February 18 on the decision to disable the exercise of public office for three and two years for various officials, without prejudice to any criminal proceedings have been initiated by the Comptroller complaint with the Attorney Provincial de Piura.

Recall that the fishery for anchovy was declared fully exploited in 1997, which, according to FAO guidelines, do not allow a greater effort for this fishery, as this would undermine their sustainable management. Thus, grant permissions Anchoveta not only undermines the existing regulatory framework but also against sustainability.

The National Fisheries Society notes that the actions of inspection, control and sanction against Illegal Fishing contribute to the sustainability of Peruvian fishing and good practices in the fishing industry.

It also calls on the authorities to continue to act firmly against cases of complaint and make public the crimes and administrative officials who commit fouls and individuals who do not respect the procedures and requirements of our fisheries management.
