The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) said on Thursday January 15 the closure period Mangrove Crab (Ucides occidentalis) was initiated with the aim of protecting this important resource during their breeding season. This measure will be until next February 28th.
Thus, extraction, transportation, processing and marketing nationally prohibited, as indicated in the Ministerial Resolution No. 445-2014-PRODUCE.
The PRODUCE appealed to the general population and extractors, retailers, restaurants, among others, to respect this provision.
Those individuals and companies who do not respect the closure period be punished as provided in the General Fisheries Act and other applicable legal provisions.
The Mangrove Crab is a crustacean whose habitat in Peru Tumbes mangroves in the region.
