50,000 Latin Americans sought through an online initiative to the Government of Colombia to suspend the importation of fish speck in order to protect from extinction the pink dolphin, used as bait to hunt this species, the British NGO World Animal Protection said today.
The initiative, part of the campaign “I protect the Pink Dolphin” of this organization, got in just one week to hold meetings with Colombian authorities, who explained the risks of excessive consumption of this animal.
The Fish speck, a product imported from Brazil, Colombia, is especially easy to catch if the bait is the pink dolphin, an iconic species that inhabits the rivers of the Amazon, whose number has declined while demand increases Pez speck.
