Peru will host the third meeting of the Cabinet of Aquaculture Network of America

The Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Juan Carlos Requejo, reported that Peru will host the Third Meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Aquaculture Network of the Americas (RAA), an organization that brings together 13 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, and seeks to promote aquaculture development among its member states, through technical cooperation and exchange of experiences.

He added that this designation which was given during his presentation at the Second Meeting of the Council of Ministers of the RAA, held in the City of Asunción (Paraguay), where he participated as a representative of the Ministry of Production (Produce).

Requejo provided details of actions being promoted by the Produce for aquaculture development, with the line of work the National Plan for Productive Diversification.

So he said that it is vital for Peru innovation and technology transfer, asking the representatives of the countries attending the next round of work, in 2016, takes place in the city of Lima, which was accepted unanimously.

During his presentation, the Deputy Minister of Fisheries ratified the momentum being made by the Peruvian government to aquaculture, which has been identified as one of the engines of growth for the country's development.

Similarly, detailed the actions taken by the government to increase the consumption of fishery resources through the national program "To Eat Fish".

In this international meeting attended by the Senior Fisheries and Aquaculture Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Alejandro Flores; Undersecretary Vice Aquaculture Aquaculture and Fisheries of Ecuador, Berta Priscila Duarte; the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture of Brazil, Eduardo Lopes; Deputy Minister of Livestock of Paraguay, Marcos Medina; the Executive Secretary of the Network of Aquaculture, Felipe Matias, among other authorities.

The Aquaculture Network of the Americas (RAA) was established in 2010 with the signing of the Charter of Brasilia and is composed of Guatemala, Cuba, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay , Argentina and Uruguay, and has the support of FAO.

2017 aimed at supporting sustainable development of aquaculture and increase fish consumption - During the Second Meeting of the Council of Ministers of the RAA the strategic lines of the Aquaculture Network of the Americas for the period 2015 were developed.

In the quotation five lines work strategies were adopted: Strengthening capacities for the development of aquaculture; Strengthening the competitiveness of aquaculture in Latin America and the Caribbean; Encourage increased fish consumption in Latin America and the Caribbean; Early warning and control of transboundary aquaculture diseases; and Promotion of interregional trade in aquaculture products.
