LIMA: Playas del Callao are used as landfill

The pollution in Lima and Callao is increasing significantly due to a lack of awareness of the population and some companies when disposing of their waste, they alleged a group of experts.
Members of the NGO Life say the lack of control of the municipalities and the lack of coordination with the markets and centers that throw organic waste has caused much of the coastline is polluted.

“In the case of Callao, the Marquez beaches and Human Settlement Victor Raul Haya de la Torre present high concentration of coliform and marine debris because the Rimac and Chillon rivers flow into its shores with a high concentration of pollutants. Many people bathe in these waters, can suffer from skin diseases and gastrointestinal”Expresses Arturo Medina Alfaro, president of that organization.

According to environmentalist, in the same state are beaches of La Perla. Also, the beach Carpayo has been called the most polluted beach in the country by the large amount of waste and cuttings that arrive by sea, affecting the Marine Biodiversity and people who can not make use of it.

“But the problem of marine litter on beaches is due to dumping of industrial and domestic waste into rivers by villagers living nearby, as well as a lack of monitoring on the part of municipalities to corporations and tricicleros also drop their waste directly into the sea”Indicates the expert.

Given this, Alfaro Medina highlights the need to assess these cases, and if moving the landfill, make a maintenance area for the serious damage on the ground.
