Pota exports continue to rise

Between January and August 2014, Peru exported squid or jumbo squid (Dosidicus gigas) for $ 197.3 million, a figure which shows an increase of 6.4% over the same period last year.

According to the Association of Exporters (ADEX), this increase is due to the high demand from major markets and growing range of products with higher added value.

In the first eight months of the year, 67 countries were prepared from frozen squid and squid from Peru.

Spain was the main target market, to increase their demand by 42%. In Thailand ranked second, although orders were down 29.8%; and behind South Korea, China, Italy and Venezuela.

Portugal was ranked 11th among the main importers of Peruvian Pota, but it is important to note that purchases rose 96.9% in the first eight months of 2014.

According to data provided by ADEX, Pota exports have maintained a rising trend in recent years increased 55.2% in 2010, 45.8% in 2011, 2.8% in 2012 and 10.4% in 2013.

Keynote presentations exported Pota were sliced, tentacles, fillets and rings, among others.

The slices and rings reached a price higher than the price tentacles, its added value.

Meanwhile, the games' other Cuttlefish, Globitos and squid frozen, dried and salted’ and 'Cuttlefish and squid prepared or preserved’ worth USD 197.1 million and USD 141,000, respectively.

The major companies that were exported Pota Peruvian Andean Frozen Production, CNC, Provider of Marine Products, Costa Mira, Seafrost and Peruvian Sea Food, among others.
