El Niño: 7 data to consider following announcement SENAMHI

The National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology of Peru (SENAMHI) said that this year's El Niño itself will be presented at the Pacific coast.

Grinia Alvarez, Spokesperson of the entity that is responsible for seeing climate changes that occur in the country, said the phenomenon is present between May and June this year (mid-autumn), and mild.

Here are seven things you should keep in mind to be alerted to this phenomenon, and also remember the impact you had El Niño in Peru in 1997 and 1998:

1. El Niño is a cyclical weather phenomenon erratically, ie, which appears without a certain frequency in cycles of three to eight years. This mainly affects South America in the Pacific.

2. It consists of a changing patterns in the movement of ocean currents, causing an overlap of warm water on the cold waters that characterize the current of Humboldt.

3. Fishermen in the port of Paita, north of our country, named it as 'El Niño', in reference to Jesus Christ. This is because, during some seasons, water from the Pacific warming in Christmas time.

4. The consequences of this phenomenon in South America, due to alterations in the Humboldt current, leading to losses in certain fish species, and the increase or circumstantial appearance of so many.

5. El Niño tends to generate intense cloud formations, periods of high humidity, low atmospheric pressure, torrential rains, agricultural losses, heat waves and violent landslides, known as landslides.

6. This phenomenon may mean for the country's economic loss of primary activities. Furthermore, the imminent danger of mudslides, it can lead to loss of homes, infrastructure and lives.

7. The last time this phenomenon occurred in our country, was between 1997 and 1998. The departments of Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad and Ica were the most affected by El Niño on that occasion.
