“Removing Anchovies should be expanded to meet the fishing quota”

"Anchovy fishing needs to approach the mile 5 and extend their season to reach the fishing quota stipulated by the Instituto del Mar del Peru (Imarpe)," said Elena Conterno, president of the National Fisheries Society.

According Conterno, fishing for anchovy is the first to feel the warming of the sea, and we need to experience an El Niño to perceive the effects of warming.

"The Anchovy is the sentinel of the sea warm and cold water and like to stick to the coast and deepens (...) There is now a move that prevents reaching the mile 5, where fishing is rampant in such species," he added.
Also confirmed that the restriction Conterno in the Gaza fishing industry, from mile 5 previously fished until mile 10, was discussed by the Judiciary and the Supreme Court said it had no support due.

However, he added, the government insisted the measure and issued a rule that required industrial fishermen only get to mile 10, which generated low levels of fishing, and would prevent reaching the fishing quota for this season.

He also noted that in early July 2013 fishery reached 95% share, but this year will reach 50%. "In 2010 we had a child in 2011 began fishing restrictions in the south, in 2012 the decree came, in 2013 there were low fishing quotas, and this year the heating is confirmed. It will certainly be very difficult this year, "he confirmed.

Thus, he argued that the industry has been weakened, and this season, just barely, the share will reach 70%.

In this scenario, Conterno requested fishery reaches the mile 5 and complete the fishing quota imposed by Imarpe.
