CHD Peruvian fish exports grew 19% annually between 2009 and 2013

Between 2009 and 2013, Peruvian fish exports for direct human consumption (CHD) grew at an average annual rate of 19 percent, ie, more than three times the increase recorded by total fish exports, which expanded to six percent annually, said today the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).

Thus, the participation of Fisheries CHD increased from 23 percent of total exports to third, while the growth was led by frozen and canned 20 percent (13 percent).

“This area is great generator of foreign exchange and employment and is one of the most innovative sectors having the Peruvian Industry”, Said the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Magali Silva during lunch Exporter III Aquaculture and Fisheries, organized by the Association of Exporters (ADEX).

He said that the main markets are the United States (22 percent), China (13 percent), Spain (12 percent) and fourth competing Thailand, France and South Korea; which account for 64 percent of total fish shipments.

He stressed that new markets have shown great dynamism in recent years, including Algeria, which grew 603 percent, Malaysia (405 percent), and Brazil (128 percent).

“They unexplored markets have grown significantly thanks to a very active campaign in the private sector of the hand with the Commission for the Promotion of Peru Export and Tourism (Promperú) emerged”He said.

He said the MINCETUR continue working on the consolidation of existing markets and opening new through Peru Trade Offices Abroad (OCEX).

“We need to strengthen fisheries exports in current markets to tap the Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and we have to strengthen and promote the participation of SMEs”He said.

The minister also said that in 2013, the MINCETUR with 114 companies participated in international events by achieving sales of $ 172 million and more than 3,000 business appointments.
