Seafood exports rose in August

Peruvian fish exports generated last August USD 412.7 million in revenue, up 13.5% on the same month in 2012, when its value was $ 363.4 million.

The export volume also increased, by 10.2%, from 215,600 tons to 237,700 tons, the Ministry of Production (Produce).

This rise was mainly due to higher sales of flour and frozen products, which grew 37.2% and 11.9%, respectively.
According to the latest Statistical Bulletin prepared by Produce, between January and August 2013 the sale abroad of 928,000 tonnes generated USD 1814.8 million, while in the same period last year 1,662,000 tons were exported for $ 2.524 million .

Meanwhile, in August 2013 173.100 tonnes of fishmeal, 37.2% more than the same month last year were exported, when sent abroad 126,100 tons.
With regard to value, in the eighth month of the year Flour is exported USD 268.7 million, 41.7% higher than in August 2012 (USD 189.5 million).

The main markets for Peruvian Fishmeal were China (337,878 tonnes), Germany (65,795 tons), Japan (33,377 tons) and Chile (27,961 tons), among others.

August exports increased foreign sales of fishmeal for the first eight months to a total of USD 905.7 million, 34.8% less than in the same period in 2012 (USD 1388.7 million).
Meanwhile, crude oil exports reached 21,800 tons in late August for $ 49.9 million, ie 48.2% less than in August 2012 (USD 96.2 million).

Whereas the first eight months of 2013, were sold abroad a total of 66,900 tons of oil, 71% less than the same period last year (230,300 tons).

Denmark, Belgium, Chile, China absorbed 26,145 tons, 19,761 tons, 5,669 tons and 2,476 tons, respectively, Fish Oil recorded until late August.

These sales generated USD 168.3 million, an amount which represents a decrease of 52.8% compared to the same period in 2012 (USD 356.6 million).

Also exported in August 2013 about 32,700 tons of frozen products, a figure that accounts for an increase of 11.9% compared to 29,200 tonnes exported a year earlier.

In the first eight months of this year were sold abroad 250,500 tonnes of frozen products, 2.4% less than the same period in 2012 (256,700 tonnes).
