Consuming omega 3 fish reduces risk of diabetes

The Omega3 Fish consumption reduces the risk of diabetes, because it improves the function of insulin compared to glucose, said the Ministry of Production.

The Omega3 fatty acid converts glucose into energy needed for proper functioning of the body, said Liliana Vargas, Nutritionist National program "To eat fish" of the Ministry of Production.

Diabetes is generated when insulin production, power key in the body, is inadequate. Insulin is a hormone made by the pancreas and which allows cells to utilize the -azúcar- blood glucose for energy.

A failure of insulin production or action leads to increased blood glucose.

Fish with higher content of Omega3 are blue or dark meat as Bonito, Jack Mackerel, Mackerel, Anchovies and Machete.

Frequent consumption of these fish also helps reduce triglycerides, cholesterol, blood pressure and inflammation.

Uncontrolled diabetes increases the risk of cardiovascular problems, amputations, blindness, kidney failure, impotence, among others.

Therefore it is important to maintain a healthy diet where the fish are containing at least three times a week for its high content of Omega3.

In Peru, according to statistics from the Ministry of Health, diabetes affects 300,000 million, and each year is detected between 80,000 and 100,000 new cases. It is estimated that by 2024, this disease could affect around one million Peruvians 800,000.
