Von Hesse said the La Chira wastewater treatment plant, will begin operating in 2015 and reach 100% and the treatment of wastewater from the capital, and that the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation, through Sedapal provides 75% treatment of sewage in the capital.

This is done through its 22 plants and decentralized Treatment Plant Wastewater Outfall and Taboada.

Construction of the La Chira WWTP will improve the quality of life of the surrounding population and the recovery of the beaches of Lima coast through advanced preliminary treatment, he said.

New uses
He explained that when the work is completed will treat the wastewater of 25% of the population of the city of Lima and will be able to treat six to 11 cubic meters of water per second. "This plant also has a channel of one cubic meter per second to give to use treated water to irrigate parks and gardens," he added.

The Minister said that further progress is to improve the welfare of Peruvians through the modality of Public Private Partnerships (PPPs).

The work includes the installation of a submarine outfall 3.5 km in length, with pipe diameter of 2.4 meters and a tunnel 800 meters, running with an investment of S /. 360 million by the form of concessions, by the Consortium La Chira, comprising Acciona Agua SAU (Spain) and Grana y Montero SA (Peru).

The concession contract for 25 years, covers the design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of the project Chira WWTP, which will treat an average flow of 6.3 cubic meters per second, and a maximum flow of 11.3 cubic meters per second.

Components of the work
Among the components of the work include the construction of a tunnel, 800 meters long, which will convey wastewater to the plant. Currently this tunnel has approximate 637 meters deep.

Chira WWTP, which will have the following systems: Removal of solids, sand trap - Degreasing, Advanced Post-treatment (1mm), Chamber of charge outfall, Deodorizing System.
For the final discharge of the effluent is building a Outfall, which have a length of 3.5 km (2.4 m pipe diameter) and an additional length of 500 m diffuser. The treated wastewater and will be discharged in compliance with the environmental quality standards established by the National Water Authority (ANA).
