CHIMBOTE – Imarpe blessed and launched sea research vessel

With the presence of the staff of officials Marine Institute of Peru (IMARPE) and the regrettable absence of senior officials of the Ministry of Production; Yesterday morning blessing ceremony, christening and launching of scientific research vessel was performed “Luis Flores Portugal”.

The ceremony was held yesterday at the TASA Shipyard Chimbote, where it was reported that this research vessel was renovated and repaired integrally with an investment of 5 million 579 thousand 268.29 soles, now adding to the scientific fleet IMARPE composed also by the HUMBOLDT BIC and BIC OLAYA.

AP retired Admiral Germán Vásquez Solis Talavera, president of the Board of IMARPE led the formal ceremony accompanied by his principal officers and officials in Lima and Chimbote;

The Ship Scientific Research (BIC) "Luis Flores Portugal" will expand the fisheries and oceanographic research in coastal areas.

The BIC "Luis Flores Portugal" was built in 1998 at the shipyard of Industrial Services Marina (SIMA PERU).

Ceased operations in June 2008 due to problems of stability and buoyancy. In 2012, after several studies, agreed to submit to a comprehensive process of structural change, travel and fairing has successfully completed in the last weeks and therefore, from the date, and meet out scientific research.

The vessel was named after Luis Flores Portugal, in honor of one of the most recognized and important researchers IMARPE.
