Looking CHILE extend moratorium on aquaculture concessions

The Undersecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Subpesca) promotes a bill through which would extend for five years a ban on new concessions aquaculture regions of Los Lagos and Aysen.

The Government's aim is to advance the process of relocation of salmonid aquaculture concessions.

“The proposal is permitted in aquaculture management areas by 40% for field crops [Algae] and 5% in the case of intensive [fish], expressly prohibiting the cultivation of exogenous resources such as salmon”He said Subpesca Holder.

He added: “The regulation makes several aquaculture ventures to Salmónidos prohibitive, and our hope is that through regulatory changes the conditions for its development are generated”.

Subpesca already identified the potential to develop the cultivation of Dorado and Corvina in northern Chile, and hake and cod in the south.
