Chancery restart dialogue with Chile demining Terrestrial Triangle

The Foreign Minister Gonzalo Gutierrez Reinel announced it would restart the Peruvian Foreign Ministry coordinate with his Chilean counterpart to continue the demining of the border. According to the Minister, these explosives also are scattered in the so-called Triangle Land.

In 2012, the flooding of Dry River in the Gorge Writings (Chile), led to mines in the territory to be shifted from the Peruvian border. That year, following an agreement between the two nations, and with the support of the Norwegian NGO Norwegian People's Aid, 66 000 760 square meters of land was cleared a. 333 mines were deactivated.

“The clearance process is not over. The agreement was made at that time was fulfilled. Now we have to take care of renewing it to complete the work begun”Said the Minister.

He further stated that the exact number of the area where they would have to continue the work of deactivation was unknown, but insisted that it would be adjacent to the shore area.
