BOLIVIA – Morales says Bolivia maritime demand “is on track”

President Evo Morales said Thursday in his inaugural address delivered at the Legislative Palace in La Paz, in presence of 7 and 5 vice presidents and representatives of 40 countries on 4 continents, maritime claim his country to Chile “is on track” en la Corte Internacional de Justicia (CIJ), en La Haya, y que, “by history and law”, Bolivia return “one day” the Pacific Ocean “with sovereignty”.

We have directed our lawsuit at the International Court of Justice strength and consistency. Our demand is on track. By history, for justice and for the right one day we will return to the Pacific Ocean with sovereignty”, said the president on the sidelines of his address to the nation.

On behalf of the government of President Michelle Bachelet, Judge Holder Supreme Court of Chile, Sergio Muñoz, attended the inauguration of Morales.

At the dawn of his third consecutive term since 2006, Morales, who in 2013 filed a lawsuit to Chile at the ICJ, said his government was committed to the “peaceful pursuit of a sovereign outlet to the Pacific Ocean”.
Bolivia and Chile are the only countries without diplomatic relations in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Currently the bilateral relationship remains little more than off.
