The Pandora Group, whose arm is fishing Tecnológica de Alimentos (TASA), is evaluating the possibility of entering the business of Tilapia.

The final position on the matter will be decided after the government published the new law for the promotion and development of the aquaculture sector, told the newspaper El Comercio Advisory senior management of TASA, Humberto Speziani.

The employer acknowledged that several years are interested in the aquaculture sector. In fact, it is not the first time the Peruvian group raises the possibility of entering the aquaculture business since last four years thinking about acquiring a salmon in Chile.

“What Chile could not make it because the conditions were not given”, Explicó Speziani.

“The Tilapia is a real possibility, but that will define at the time. For now the priority is to start exporting our oil omega-3”, añadió el ejecutivo en declaraciones al diario peruano.

In March next year will complete the first stage of the construction of the plant in Lurin, which required an investment of USD 60 million, and the idea is to start exporting in late 2015.

The main market is the United States, but also to export to Europe and Asia, said adviser TASA.

Asked about the status of the anchovy fishery, said that if the Sea Institute (Imarpe) observed a recovery of biomass should not open the second fishing season, scheduled for later this month.

Speziani stressed the need to take care of the resource, since if it is not recovered, “2015 will be a really critical year for the sector, it will boot without stocks”.
