SNI industry expected to grow this year driven by mining and Fisheries

The industrial sector will grow this year driven by Mining and Fisheries, plus the textile industry, the second quarter marked the beginning of recovery, predicted the president of the National Society of Industries (SNI), Luis Salazar.

In this regard, he said that the industrial sector would close 2015 in positive territory, after falling 3.3 percent last year and 5.54 percent in January 2015.

“There is potential for a recovery in the sector and the odds are there, but it will also depend on building trust to boost private investment and greater peace of mind that is generated in a political year like this”He said in statements to Andina.

The businessman said that for the second quarter of this year the recovery of Fisheries and increased mining production is expected, which “industry would pull up”.

He further stated that the US economy is recovering, which will generate greater demand for Peruvian textiles.

He also noted that factors such as depreciation of the local currency and cheaper oil prices will help raise the competitiveness of manufacturing.

Moreover, Salazar emphasized that the production of capital goods is growing at a rate of five percent, which “is a sign that the investment is progressing”.
