Forecasters are about to declare the onset of El Niño, after it said in 2014 that were not so many probabilities of occurrence.
Experts in the field and farmers are closely following the development of the phenomenon, characterized by extreme weather in many parts of the world. At other times, El Niño brought drought in the south and southeast Asia and Australia, and floods in parts of Latin America. It also warms the waters of the Pacific Ocean, affecting fishing outside the coast of Peru.
Prices of commodities such as cocoa increased this year for fear of El Niño, because the oceans continue to rise in temperature. But then meteorologists said that was not so probable that the phenomenon was developed.
