El Sindicato Único de Pescadores de Nuevas Embarcaciones del Perú (Supnep) mostró su discrepancia con el último informe del Instituto del Mar del Perú (Imarpe), que concluye que el nivel de la biomasa de Anchoveta detectada en su último crucero científico, de 3,3 millones de toneladas, es mucho menor a la esperada y no permitiría iniciar una segunda temporada de pesca.

Por ello, el Secretario general del Supnep, Juan Pedemonte, solicitó al Ministerio de la Producción (Produce) autorizar una pesca exploratoria con la participación de toda la flota del litoral para determinar el verdadero nivel de la biomasa de Anchoveta.

De acuerdo a estos resultados, se decidiría si se abre o no una segunda temporada de pesca en el país, refirió.

"We want exploratory fishing to be carried out with the presence of industrial vessels, they go by coordinates and fish. If there are big fish, they catch them, and if there are small ones we have to take the sample and say we can't fish, we have to wait, but they tell us the truth," indicó a RPP Noticias.

Sin embargo, la Vicepresidenta de Oceana Perú, Patricia Majluf, aseguró que la pesca exploratoria no brindaría información científica sobre la biomasa de Anchoveta, tal como señalan los pescadores.

Por el contrario, afirmó que esta media podría dañar el stock actual de Anchoveta, que solo tiene 2 millones de toneladas de adultos desovantes o reproductores.

"An exploratory fishing in which they release the entire fleet would be absolutely counterproductive for the population, especially because they are going to want to get into the shore area, which is where the anchovy is now concentrated. The anchovy is very close to the coast, there it is especially vulnerable, if they catch it there they can take it all away," dijo a RPP Noticias.

Sostuvo que si el Gobierno decide abrir la pesca exploratoria por algunos días, de manera muy limitada, sería básicamente para dar una cuota social a los pescadores.

"When a quota is not given, when the season is not open, exploratory fishing is allowed as if to say: go and fish a little. They keep that fishing and it is a short-term economic benefit that is given to them, but at the level of scientific measurement it is worth nothing," he said.

Majluf señaló que tomando en cuenta el último informe del Imarpe, el Ministerio de la Producción no debería abrir una segunda temporada de pesca de Anchoveta.

Según el Titular del sector, Piero Ghezzi, la decisión sobre si habrá o no segunda temporada se tomará en los próximos días, tomando en cuenta los reportes del Imarpe
