Fishing grow 17% in 2015 due to increased activity in the second half, provides Interbank

The second half of 2015 will mark the rise of the fisheries sector and allow that in 2015 no less than 17% growth is achieved, according to an analysis by the Corporate Banking Division of Interbank.

He added that the demand side, there is a positive situation on the world market towards increased consumption of products associated with fishing. Meanwhile, on the supply side, we expect a better situation than last year, which confirms the report of the Instituto del Mar del Peru (IMARPE) to be released in April.

Furthermore, the expected further growth of the world economy in 2015 will help increase the production and consumption of fishery products. In the case of export fishmeal, industry 12% increase in its level in 2015, thanks to the recovery of local production and higher product price in the international market.

"The prices of exported products did not rise in 2014 due to China, the biggest buyer, had an estimated stock of 253,000 metric tons of fishmeal early last year", Said Victor Carcamo, Manager of Corporate Banking Interbank.

He said in December that stock was estimated at only 30,000 metric tons, so best prices for fishmeal not yet marketed expected.

“Así, entre noviembre 2014 y enero del 2015, el precio de exportación de la Harina de Pescado ya ha subido 40% desde enero a noviembre del 2014”, he said.

According to the Executive Interbank, world production of fish in aquaculture industry is growing annually at 2% and reached 166 million tons, while global consumption advances to 3% and reached 145 million tons.

He also stressed the investments in the sector worth US $ 900 million in the past five years, according to the National Fisheries Society (SNP).

“Estas inversiones estuvieron orientadas a la adecuación ambiental, montaje de líneas de conservas y congeladas, y expansión de las plantas industriales, principalmente”, he said.
