Peru achieves 75% increase in catch quota of mackerel on the high Seas

The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) reported that the Regional Fisheries Management Organisation South Pacific (RFMOs-PS) increased by 75% the mackerel catch quota allocated to Peru on the high Seas, setting 2015 extraction 7,400 tons.

This action was described as a major achievement by the Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Juan Carlos Requejo, head of the Peruvian delegation, while participating in the Third Regular Meeting of the RFMO-PS, held in Auckland, New Zealand, 30 January 6 last February.

Requejo also reported that it has applied to Congress legislative approval of the Convention RFMOs-PS, by Supreme Resolution No.013-2015-RREE, so that at the next meeting of the organization, to be held in January 2016, Peru becomes effective participation in membership of the Convention country.

Currently, Peru Speaking as cooperating non-country, ie, with right to speak but not vote.

The Peruvian delegation noted that during 2015, Peru will continue working to strengthen the legal framework regulating the activities of DEEP SEA for national and foreign fleet, homogenizing the rules of the coastal countries of the region in order to continue

The Regional Fisheries Management Organisation South Pacific (RFMOs-PS) is committed to the long-term conservation and sustainable use of fishery resources in the High Sea South Pacific Ocean international entity, and the protection of marine ecosystems house resources. Similarly, grants fishing quotas to each member country, for certain species, among them the mackerel.
