More than 70 plants for CHD manufactured fishing preserves

More than half of the fish plants working fishery products for direct human consumption (CHD) in Peru is engaged in the manufacture of frozen products, and more than a third in the production of canned food, according to the National Fisheries Society (SNP).
According to a report published by the SNP, 55.9% of a total of 222 plants for CHD industry specializing in the production of frozen, 35.6% to canning and 8.6% to production of cured.
The SNP detailing the 73 fish canneries have a total installed capacity of 209,096 cases per work shift.
On the other hand, 45 companies engaged in the production of fish meal and oil have 119 plants that together have a total installed capacity of 9,144 tonnes per hour. In this case, firms involved SNPs associated with 74% of total production capacity.
According to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics of Peru (INEI), the fishing activity in July increased 13.4% compared to the same month in 2013.
This increase was due to higher landings of anchovy for fishmeal industry, while the catch for CHD experienced a decrease.
“We need an emergency measure, and tomorrow will be fishing between mile 5 and 10, with Anchovy is, because otherwise, fishing shrink”Said Elena Conterno, President of the SNP.
At the time, low catches Conterno attributed to two main causes: the heating of the Sea and the existing regulations affecting fishing.
