The legislation is in force for pelagic fisheries since last January 1st.

The European Union (EU) yesterday approved legislation allowing end fish discards, the practice of release of sea (active or not) unwanted catches. The standard, known as Omnibus regulation aims to combat overfishing and improve the status of fish stocks.
