Arctic Cod Fishing

The origins of the Spanish Fleet Bacaladera back more than 500 years ago.

Since 2010 there are signs of some recovery of cod in Newfoundland, which is supporting a fledgling, though discreet, this fleet return to their traditional fishing grounds.

The fishery for cod in the Barents Sea is reserved exclusively to the cod fleet, as set forth by the Order of June 8, 1981. According to it each year the Census Vessel cod is published by Resolution of the General Secretary Fishing.

The fishing of cod fishing fleet in the Barents Sea are located in the Norwegian EEZ north of North 62nd meridian, and Svalbard.

The level of TACS in the Barents Sea is set each year in October or November by Russian-Norwegian Commission (Coastal States of the Sea), and the Spanish quotas Arctic cod in the Barents Sea are published every year in a Community Regulation establishing the fishing opportunities available in EU waters and in case of EU vessels in certain waters outside the EU for certain fish stocks and groups of fish stocks are set.
