IMARPE conduct exploratory fishing for anchovy

The Instituto del Mar del Peru (IMARPE) was authorized by the Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) to conduct an exploratory fishing anchovy in the southern area of ​​the Peruvian Sea for five days.

The objective of this fishing is to update information on the distribution of pelagic resource, the structure sizes available and the incidence of other species.

According to the Ministerial Resolution No. 053-2015, the exploratory fishing will begin March 12 and may not extend beyond Monday 16 March. The study area covers between 16 ° 00′ South and south end of the Peruvian maritime domain, outside the five miles to the coast.

During the first day will be open 50 large purse seiners selected scale, and this number of vessels may be increased in the remaining days, the PRODUCE reported.

The boats must have a valid fishing license for anchovy fishing with a Maximum Percentage of catch per boat in the South Zone (PMCE-South) for capture.

The information collected by the Ministry IMARPE provide the scientific basis for rational management of the Anchovy.

The Head of the Ministry, Piero Ghezzi, said that once the results of the exploratory capture are known, the opening of the first season of fishing pelagic resource will be decided.

In this regard, he also recalled that the preliminary report of IMARPE “suggests a good Biomass with many youth who would be reaching adult height for a good fishing in late March”.
