Seafood exports are retracted in volume and value

Peruvian fish exports generated last September USD 177.2 million in revenue, up 40.5% on the same month in 2013, when its value was USD 297.7 million.

The volume of exports fell by 49.8%, from 165,900 tons to 83,300 tons, the Ministry of Production (Produce).

This decrease was primarily due to lower sales of Fishmeal and Fish Oil.

According to the latest Statistical Bulletin prepared by Produce, between January and September 2014 the sale abroad of 1,272,700 tonnes of fish products generated USD 2.3514 billion, while in the same period last year were exported 1,120,500 USD 2.1227 billion tonnes.

In September 2013 36.100 tons of fish meal, 67.5% less than the same month last year, when sent abroad 111,000 tons were exported.

With respect to the value, in the ninth month of the year Flour is exported USD 65.3 million, 60.9% less than in September 2013 (USD 167 million).

Between January and September 2014 739.700 tons of fish meal, 14.3% more than in the same period in 2013 (647,100 tons) were exported. These sales generated a total of USD 1,117,400,000 in revenue, up 3.8% on the same period in 2013 (USD 1,076,800,000).

The main markets for Peruvian fishmeal were China (381,000 tons), Germany (117,900 tons), Japan (63,600 tons) and Chile (52,600 tonnes), among others.

Meanwhile, fish oil exports totaled 8,700 tonnes last September for $ 18 million, 34.6% less than in the same month of 2013 (USD 27.5 million).

Whereas the first nine months of 2014 were sold abroad a total of 118,900 tonnes of oil, 52.4% more than in the same period last year (78,000 tons). These sales were worth USD 244.3 million, an amount that represents a rise of 28.9% over the same period in 2013 (USD 189.5 million).

Denmark, Chile and Belgium absorbed 38,450 tons, 23,310 tons and 23,280 tons, respectively, fish oil recorded until late September.

Also exported in September 2014 some 30,600 tonnes of frozen products, volume accounts for a decrease of 4.7% compared to 32,100 tonnes exported a year earlier.

In the first nine months of this year were sold abroad 320,800 tons of frozen, 3.9% more than the same period of 2013 (308,600 tonnes).
