Export Pota reached historical record to November 2014

The export of Pota reached a historical record to November 2014, reporting a recovery, after adding 439.9 million dollars, reflecting an increase of 30.4 percent over the same period of 2013, the Exporters Association (Adex).

The progress of the export of Pota verified recorded after two consecutive declines in 2012 and 2013.

The figure for November 2014 was undoubtedly the best in recent years because regardless December exceeded previous annual records.

Adex noted that the recovery in 2014 responded to the increased presence of landings and soaring prices in major international markets.

China was the main destination of Peruvian squid with 166.3 million dollars (January-November), increasing their demand for squid at 53.4 percent.

It was followed by Spain with 73.5 million dollars and grew 22.9 percent and South Korea with 62.9 million (65.7 percent).

Fourth is Thailand (40.1 million dollars) which remains a major destination despite its falling 18.3 percent.

These four countries (China, Spain, South Korea and Thailand) account for almost 78 percent of total shipments.

Other destination countries are Japan, Italy, Mexico, United States, among others a total of 57 countries.

The exporter guild explained that the growth of the two major Asian destinations, China (53.4 percent) and South Korea (65.7 percent), was based on the recovery of presentations Giant Squid (Daruma) and consolidation of Korea South that gradually becomes more prominence.

With regard to Thailand, his fall was due to a contraction in the price level of cartilage.

Among the main presentations Pota Peru exports are the cooked fillets and fins, which are intended precisely to China and South Korea, in addition to rings, tentacles steaks or fresh and frozen state.
