The Marine Stewardship Council appoints Brian Perkins as Regional Director of the Americas

Perkins opens regional headquarters in Washington DC and oversee the program directors in the United States, Canada and Latin America

January 14, 2015 (Seattle, WA) The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) has appointed Brian Perkins, a former commercial fisherman and executive international trade fair for seafood, as Regional Director of the Americas. This appointment is part of a new strategy to continue to expand the presence of MSC in the Americas and increase the availability of certified sustainable seafood products across the region.

Perkins was part of the senior management team of MSC on January 5th. It will work with the Executive Director of MSC, Rupert Howes, and Global Commercial Director Nicolas Guichoux. Perkins also work closely with industry and the conservation community to recognize and encourage sustainable fishing practices that sustain healthy marine ecosystems.

Perkins will be based in Washington D.C. a new office will serve as the regional headquarters of MSC Americas. MSC office in Seattle will remain the headquarters of the United States.

Rupert Howes, CEO of the Marine Stewardship Council, said: "I am delighted to welcome Brian, who joins the MSC as our first Regional Director of the Americas under the recently revised and implemented, regional structure.

Globally, more than 245 fisheries are certified as sustainable against the MSC standard for environmentally robust Sustainable Fisheries.

About half (53%) of fisheries in the United States and two-thirds (62%) of the fisheries in Canada are involved in the MSC program.
