Discover why the Octopus are not tangled tentacles

Scientists in Israel solved the mystery of why the octopus tentacles manage to avoid getting tangled in knots.

The eight limbs of this Cephalopod Mollusk covered by hundreds of suction cups that stick to almost anything, with one major exception: his own skin.

The researchers conducted an experiment using live and cut octopus tentacles.
They found that each limb is autonomous and contains a chemical that disables the suckers when they are with another limb of the same octopus.

“We were surprised that no one noticed before this strong easy phenomenon to detect” Guy said Levy, one of the leaders of the research.

“We were totally surprised by the simple and brilliant solution octopus this potentially very complicated problem”.

Own life
According to the study published in the journal Current Biology, the tentacles of these molluscs practically have their own life and surviving about an hour after being amputees.
They can grasp food and even bring snacks where “think” which is the mouth of his former owner. Also, the tips of the octopus regrow once cut.

The next step for the scientists at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem is to discover what substance or chemical compound is responsible for blocking the suckers on the octopus and how this species recognizes its own flesh from the rest.
