Agents of the National Aquaculture and Fisheries Service, Sernapesca and Navy are monitoring the evolution of a new varazón of thousands of anchoveta occurred in Chanaral, in the Atacama Region.
As reported Sernapesca, they have already been counted more than 250 kilos of dead anchovies on the shore of the beach Pools, while another 500 kilos remained trapped in the water at low tide in an area of natural pools. These fish were alive and expected to be released with the high tide, the Regional Director of Sernapesca Atacama, Guillermo Mery reported.
Still they are analyzed the causes of this varazón. As part of the procedure, samples of dead species were taken for analysis.
So far this year, several incidents of mass deaths have already occurred in the Chilean coast: thousands of salmon died from asphyxiation caused by a proliferation of harmful algae and shellfish mortality and stranding of sardines was also recorded.
