Deputy Phumpiu participates in meeting of the Committee on Fisheries of the FAO in Rome

The Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Paul Phumpiu, will participate in the 31st Session of the Committee on Fisheries (COFI) of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), which begins today in Rome, Italy , and extends until June 13, 2014.

Peru is actively involved in various meetings convened by FAO Fisheries Sector because represents the importance given to the creation of productive employment, national food security and generating income for the country strategic sector.

The Viceministerial Bureau of Fisheries of the Ministry of Production (Produce) is competent for Fisheries Management and Development, Fishery major and minor scales, Aquaculture major and minor scales, national and sectoral level.

In addition, it ensures the sustainable use of aquatic resources and favorable economic, social and environmental impact.

Furthermore, the said Office represents Peru in international organizations on issues of fisheries to address, among other issues associated with trade in fishery products.

It is therefore important to involve the representative of the Ministry of Production, as it will reveal and demonstrate the interest of Peru in matters affecting the fish trade.

Also, in the absence of Vice Phumpiu, will do the Dispatch Viceministerial Fisheries Secretary General of the Ministry of Production, Tabata Vivanco.
