A milestone in the sustainable management of natural resources in protected natural areas represented the approval of the first program Fisheries Management of the middle basin of the Nanay River, inside the National Reserve Allpahuayo Mishana, natural protected area managed by the National Service Natural areas protected by the State, Sernanp.
the principles and applicable regulatory measures for sustainable management of species of ornamental fish and consumption in the middle of the Nanay River are set by this management program approved by the Regional Directorate of Production of Loreto.
Thus, the families living on the banks of the Nanay River will benefit and market, through management plans approved by the Sernanp, more than 20 species of fish, contributing in its socio-economic development and improving their quality lifetime.
This resource is used by fishermen eight communities located within and buffer zone of the Allpahuayo Mishana National Reserve, who in order to conduct an orderly fishery and according to fisheries legislation have been organized in associations Fishermen, key allies in the conservation of this protected natural area and water bodies (rivers and lakes) found inside.
This joint work with Sernanp and the Regional Directorate of Production has also allowed form vigilance committees in fishing, as entities of support to counter illegal fishing within this Reserve, located 23 kilometers from the city of Iquitos.
