The Ministry of Production (Produce) announced that the hydro-biological species called vinciguerria could become the second largest biomass of the Peruvian Sea, displacing Pota at that location.
“Potentially vinciguerria biomass may be the second largest Peruvian Sea. We are trying to see how to exploit the resource, since it has not been exploited”Said the Head of Produce, Piero Ghezzi.
This conclusion was reached by the Minister after meeting 1.2 million metric tons of vinciguerria in 50,000 square kilometers of sea obtained following the judgment of the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
“In addition there are a couple of specific investigations being made to try to ensure the use of this resource, it would be the second largest in the country”Remarked recalling that Ghezzi Anchovy is the largest biomass in the Peruvian Sea.
He said the vinciguerria is a species that is deeper, so it's a little harder to capture compared to laAanchoveta.
“But it could be very interesting and promising to begin to exploit this resource”Ghezzi said during his presentation on the Fisheries Sector to the committee on Production, Micro and Small Enterprises and Cooperatives Congress.
For his part, the President of the Instituto del Mar del Peru (Imarpe), Germán Vásquez vinciguerria has stressed that similar amounts of the protein Anchovy.
