Between 2004 and 2013, Lambayeque may have received more than 47 million soles for fishing fee; however, the current Canon Law (Law No. 27506) does not have this income budget.
For that reason and proposing amendment, Congressman Javier Velásquez introduced Bill No. 02684, the same as, if approved, would allow the region to have this benefit.
LAW. Article 13 of Law No. 27506 states that it Fish Canon makes up 50% of total revenues and revenues received by the State of firms engaged in commercial fishing extracting larger scale.
However, the regulation of the law indicates that the Canon Fishing is calculated based on the landing of industrial fishing, thereby favoring the industrial production of fishmeal.
“As industrial plants are not in Lambayeque, this region does not have the canon. The criterion used for all types of natural resources, ie according to the volume and the extraction zone is applied. In Peru there are 523 oceangoing vessels, of which 250 are of Lambayeque”, Said Velasquez.
He further stated that the bill has received a favorable opinion from the Committee on Production of Congress, therefore, estimated to be approving, at the latest in September.
“With this fee, Lambayeque could receive between 11 and 12 million additional year”Said the senator.
FISHERMEN. When consulted, the leader of the fishermen's union in Santa Rosa, Hector Galan Llontop, agreed to receive this Canon Fish would be beneficial to the region, but said he expects those revenues are primarily aimed at improvements in the same sector.
“Furthermore now that we are in crisis, it is important that this canon is intended for projects within the fisheries sector”He said.
