For two weeks, the deaths of three sea lions a day in the Bay of Chimbote are reported, the Manager of Environmental Management of the Provincial Municipality of Santa Cruz Raul Mendez said.
He said the remains of animals are abandoned on the shores of the beach, up to the hospital La Caleta.
He said that, in general, these animals have bumps on the back, which suggests that actually kill possibly local fishermen.
The officer asked edilicio Imarpe intervention to determine the causes for the sea lions killed.
“Let the specialists take the corresponding samples and determine why so many deaths occur,” he said.
At another point, Mendez lamented the death of a sea lion on the beach The Chimu, Samanco District, at the hands of two fishermen, and was captured on video that later became public.
The official condemned the attack and called for the intervention of the authorities to find those responsible for this environmental attack.
He recalled that a few weeks ago the Municipality of Saint has launched a campaign to feed the pelicans, since due to the lack of fish are also dying or migrating to urban areas.
