Sus constantes vientos Alisios provenientes del Sur Este, produce casi permanentemente afloramientos de aguas ricas en nutrientes, que causa una alta productividad primaria y favorece a la gran cantidad de fito y zooplancton, que permite una alta biomasa poblacional de la anchoveta (Engraulis ringens), especie end\u00e9mica del sistema de la Corriente de Humboldt, tambi\u00e9n llamada Corriente Peruana.
